Another Week, Another Hike

My aunt, mom, and I headed up Holbrook Canyon last Saturday to take in more of Fall's goodness. This canyon is just above the Bountiful, Utah Temple. The last time I hiked it was ages ago, so I forgot about how long of a hike it is. I looked up the mileage online which said 8 miles up and back. Well I don't know if that's accurate or what because after we had gone what I swear was 4-5 miles, we still weren't to the top and had to turn around so we could make it back before dark. A lot of the trail is uphill and it's not a really easy hike, so maybe we were just making slower time and didn't go as far as I thought, but maybe next time we'll actually make it to the top. Even though we didn't make it, it was still worth the beautiful scenery. As we got toward the bottom as the sun was practically gone, the canyon was glowing from all the brilliant colored leaves. It was seriously magical, as cheesy as that sounds. It's a shaded hike, almos...

Fall 2014

Fall is without a doubt my favorite season.  This year I've been trying to soak it in as much as possible,  so we've hit up Silver Lake, Mueller Park Canyon,  and Red Butte Gardens in the last couple weeks. I wish this time of year could last as long  as the bitter cold of winter seems to stick around. (Silver Lake - Big Cottonwood Canyon - Utah) (Red Butte Gardens - Utah)  (Hike to Elephant Rock - Mueller Park Canyon - Utah)  I also did a little foraging in my parents' yard  and designed a fun fall arrangement for my mother-in-law's birthday.  I love how it turned out!

10 Months

10 crazy fast months have gone by with this munchkin! Here's what's been up this month... - 2 new teeth (7 total now) - crawling, climbing, and standing - lots of jibber jabber. He loves to make "sssss" sounds like a snake  and say da da, although he obviously doesn't know what it means yet.  - as his hair grows in we've noticed he's got some curl going on in the back - loves his binky - has really taken an interest in books. His favorites are the touch and feel books. - has become a great eater. favorites are yogurt and peaches - gets in to everything!  Loves to take the covers off the floor air vents, play in the dog dish, pull the books off the shelf, unroll the toilet paper, etc.  - wearing 12-18 mo. clothes, size 4 diapers, and still hates getting dressed or diaper changed - loves dogs -made his first bite marks on the crib  - learned to wave * I found this little green chair at an antique store in Iowa before ...

9 Months

Saturday was the 9 month mark for Ames! I feel like he has changed so much over this last month.  He's now up to 5 teeth (2 top, 3 bottom), is pulling himself up onto furniture, crawling, climbing the stairs, trying lots of new food, and overall just being a little busy body.  He managed to climb onto the ottoman the other day using a toy as a step stool. I wasn't in the room at the time and I walked past and almost had a heart attack.  The past 3 months he's been in a lovely sleep regression, but the past 3 nights he has finally been sleeping through the night again. Hallelujah. Crossing my fingers I didn't just jinx myself.  He's also got quite the personality and loves to babble, laugh, and smile at just about anyone.  He's yet to meet someone that he wouldn't smile at. I love that he is such a happy and social baby.  Since I work a couple days a week, he is also used to being with other people, so it's been nice that he do...

8 Months

Before I know it, this boy will be a year old! It's 8 months already today!  I love seeing him learn and grow  and despite the sleep relapse we've had the past month, 5-8 months has been such a fun time.  Lots of smiles and personality.  Here's what's up at 8 months for Ames... - 4 teeth, which he loves to grind together - Has the army crawl down - Finally enjoying baby food and taste testing mom and dad's meals - Loves stuffed animals - Loves swinging in just about anything - Still wearing 12 month clothes - Just moved up to size 4 diapers this week - Loves getting in Thor's dog dish  - Hates getting dressed because he's a busy body  and doesn't like mom or dad holding him down so he can't roll over   - Still loves bath time and swimming at the pool

Leaky Diapers

Look at that face. I could kiss it all day. The Bubbs got his first baseball hat this week.  Of course with Landon as his father we are teaching him young to be a BYU fan.  To my surprise, he actually keeps it on his head.  Our challenge this week is trying to find a solution to this kid wetting through his diapers every night.  We've tried the 12 hour diapers and he still wets through those. The past two nights we've been doubling up with a cloth diaper over the top of his disposable. Tomorrow I think I'll try buying a size up in the 12 hour ones and see how that goes. Any of you had this problem and found a good solution? I'm all ears. It's resulting in this kid waking up in the middle of the night soaking wet every night.  SO MUCH FUN.  But like I've said before, seeing that cute face the next morning seems to wipe the slate clean. :)  We've also been doing lots of swinging on the porch swing in the backyard. I love i...

On The Move

Ames is officially on the move!  (my video won't upload, but you can see it on Instagram) He's got the inchworm/army crawl down and he's working on  the hands and knees. He'll get up up on them and rock back and forth and move his legs a little but he hasn't figured out how to coordinate his arms at the same time yet. He'll just collapse and do what we call the head plow.  He's also got two more teeth popping through! This time on the top. One has already come down and we can feel the other one getting ready to. This has resulted in some very "fun" sleeping habits.  By about 2-3 months he was sleeping through the night (10-12 hours) and now that the fun stage of teething has begun, he's started waking once a night. I'm grateful it's only once, but it's still frustrating none-the-less since we've gotten used to sleeping again at night. I can't help but instantly forgive him in the morning though when he wak...

Family Photos - Spring 2014

The day Ames turned exactly 6 months we had family pictures  taken by the talented James Clissold. I always love getting pictures back and looking through them. It's like Christmas!  The little stinker wouldn't smile for anything,  but at least it was that and not him screaming the whole time.  We still got some great shots that I love!

Lake Powell 2014

Another annual Lake Powell trip has come and gone.  This was a first for Ames though.  I was definitely nervous about taking him mostly because  I was afraid he wouldn't sleep well and wake everyone up  and then be whiney and ornery the whole trip  from the heat and lack of sleep, but boy was I wrong!  He did awesome and slept better than he does at home!  We only went for 3 days because we had my friend's wedding  and didn't want to plan on the full week in case Ames didn't do well.  After it went so well though, we wished we could have been down there longer.  3 days just isn't long enough. Especially not long enough to get my yearly tan :)  Also big news, our house plans are with the city, so we will hopefully have a building permit in 2-4 weeks.  So sometime in July they will start digging! I can't wait for them to start  so we can see the progress as it comes together.  Ames has...

7 Months

Today is 7 months for Ames! Here's what he's up to... - loves drinking out of cups - not a fan of baby food - is constantly rolling over - always has to be busy - favorite toy is his Little Einsteins radio  and pretty much anything he can chew on  - wearing 12 mo. clothes and size 3 diapers - taller than his 10 month old friends - Loves the water - Hates getting dressed - Is becoming very aware of Thor and smiles whenever he's around - Loves being thrown in the air - Has 2 teeth - Sits up on his own - Loves to kick his legs, jump in his activity jumper,  and has a funny little one-legged stomp when he's standing up - Still loves to be swaddled. We're working on that fun transition. - Got his first little goose egg today from face planting into his toy  while sitting on the floor. I'm sure it's the first of many bumps and bruises to come! Some of these aren't new to those of you who follow the blog r...

Dad's Day

Such a great husband and dad this guy is.  So glad I get to raise this little boy and our future kiddos with him.  He takes great care of us. I couldn't ask for a better dad for Ames.  We love you Landon!  We hit the pool again this week and Ames is loving it. He loves to splash his hands in the water and loves hanging out on the grass in his diaper afterwards. He's done more hangin in his diaper this week than normal and managed to figure out how to undo it. Lovely. I love this picture of him with his feet crossed, sitting with his Fox, just undoing the tabs over and over.  I'm guessing I'm not the only one, but being a first time mom, I think I'm behind on the transitions in stages. Ames probably could have been sitting in a high chair, when we go out, long before now, but this week we finally tried it out. He did great, and like I said, probably could have been sitting in one a long time ago. Sometimes the in and out of buckling and...

June Already !?

Wow, I swear May was only a week long.  Where does the time go!?  We haven't been up to much of anything new lately,  except for Ames, who seems to change daily.  He now loves to drink from cups.  If he sees anyone drinking from one he reaches out for it.  The first time he wanted to try it I figured he'd pretty much just give himself a bath,  but he's actually pretty good at it. He even managed to suck a little from a straw.  I know, crazy proud mom moments that most of you could probably care less about :)  Ames also has 2 teeth that have come through on the bottom.  They're pretty cute but early teething is not the greatest for a nursing mom    He's still getting the hang of how to use those chompers. :)  You can see a little peek of them in this picture... I'm definitely nervous for this kid to start crawling which is on the horizon. He is already such a busy body and rolls ov...
