A Birthday for me

I'm pretty proud of myself for blogging as much as I have lately. Now I just need to get more people out there to realize I haven't abandoned my blog, because I think they've given up on me :) We had  a great time with Landon's parents over the Thanksgiving weekend. My birthday was Sunday and Landon and his parents did all the cooking for me and took me out to dinner the night before. So great not having to cook! Landon made us delicious pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and then we had a quick dinner before we had to take Becky and Jerry to the airport. Becky made an awesome mint chocolate bundt cake as well. It was a great day!  I also had yesterday and today off so I took advantage of my weekend-long birthday, and got a facial in the morning, finished my Christmas decorations, Landon and I tried a new Thai restaurant downtown that was really good for dinner, and my cute Grimes friends took me out for ice-cream. Now back to cooking for the rest of the w...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

We always have quite the adventure getting our Christmas tree home because of our small cars. Landon never wants to bother tying it to the top so for the past 2 years he has practically frozen his hand off holding it out the window as we drive home. Luckily the nursery where we bought our tree this year was just around the corner from our house. (p.s. why does your own voice sound so ugly in movies!?)

A Day of Thanks

Today has been a great Thanksgiving. Landon's parents came out to visit and we had a big feast with a few of our friends who are also students. We missed all of you at home in Utah though! To finish up the day I need to complete my list of thanks... Nov. 17 I'm thankful for the blessing of travel. Preferably by plane :) Whether it's taking a trip home to Utah or traveling to a new place, I have been very lucky to be able to do both pretty often. I've been to able to see some amazing places around the world.  Nov. 18 I'm thankful for the beauty of the earth. I've always loved having fresh flowers and live plants in my house. Being surrounded with them makes me happy :) I love an amazing sunset, the smell of fall in the air, the beautiful Utah mountains, and being able to go camping and just be in the middle of it all. Nov. 19 I'm thankful for delicious and abundant food :) This is something I definitely take for granted. Reading what m...

Just What I Needed

Last week I was able to go home to Utah for a much needed break. I planned this trip a month or two ago and it couldn't have come at a better time. The trip included a 2 day snow storm & practically 2 feet of snow, crafting, shopping, temple-going, movies, yummy food, and a little recoup time. If Landon and Thor hadn't been back here in Iowa I may have just stayed forever :)

Catch up

So I really need to catch up on my Thankfuls... Nov. 10 I'm thankful for a healthy body. With going to the doctor lately, I've realized how healthy I am. I think I've been to the doctor maybe 3 times since I was 5 years old. 1 physical for track in junior high, once for the flu that lasted over a week in high school, the "womanly" checkup before I got married, and then add on the last 3 times this past month. I'd say I've been pretty lucky. So many people struggle with their health constantly and I am so thankful I am not one of them. Nov. 11 I'm thankful for change. I have a love hate relationship with it. In some areas of my life I need constant change or I just get bored with myself, and in other areas, it is not so easy to handle. But overall I am thankful for it because it allows me to grow in all areas of my life.  Nov. 12 I'm thankful for my bed :) I'm quite the napper if you know me well. Sleep time is ver...

Thankful Part 3

Nov 6. I imagined my day 6 being about a much different subject, but it seems that life never goes the way you plan. Today I am thankful for trials. Trials that strengthen your testimony of the Savior, that make you grow, that make you closer to the ones you love, and that show you the comfort the Holy Ghost can bring. Many of you may have already guessed that Landon and I were expecting. Unfortunately, at my 10 week doctors appointment we found out that our little one no longer had a heartbeat. Needless to say it has brought us a lot of heartache but has a...

Thankful Part 2

Today has been a rough one, and the best way to get your mind off the bad is to remember all that you have. So here is Day 4 and 5... Nov. 4 I'm thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have a testimony that it is true, that God wants us to be happy and wants to be there for us. On a day like today I am so glad I have this knowledge and comfort. Things are still hard but because I have the Gospel I know it can and will be ok. If you want to know more about what I believe go here... http://mormon.org Nov 5.  I'm thankful for our dog child, Thor. I never could have imagined how much we could come to love a dog. I can't even fathom the love that you have for "real" children. He brings us a lot of happiness, snuggles, and headaches. He is my little buddy when Landon isn't home and is sure to growl at any noise that he might think is a threat. :)

Thankful

Wanted to start a daily "thankful list" even though I am a little late.... Nov. 1 I'm thankful to be living in Iowa right now. As much as I hate it sometimes and as hard as it has been for me to be away from home, I have learned things, grown in ways I never could, and met new people I never would have had we not come here.  Nov. 2 I'm thankful for Landon. I really can't imagine being married to anyone else. He is the perfect balance to me in every way. He knows how to make me laugh when I'm ornery, usually because "I hate it here" (Iowa) :) He is a great provider. He loves me when I don't deserve it. Even after 3 1/2 years of being married there are many days that I get giddy inside knowing he will be home when I get there. (Sometimes we don't see too much of each other with school and work)  Nov. 3 I'm thankful for loving parents. They may not be perfect just like everyone else, but I have always known t...
