DIY Lamp Revamp

I registered for 2 of these lamps when we got married and I honestly still really like them, I just don't love them anymore. After a few years I'm just ready for something new, but new lamps aren't in my budget right now with the slew of baby things, so when I found 2 cans of white gloss spray paint in our storage room while packing I knew exactly what to do. I bought 2 spools of black and white striped ribbon at Joann Fabrics and I was off!

Just tape of your cord, socket, and switch and start with a light layer of paint. You may even want to start with a primer coat. I didn't want to have to go buy any so I did without, and I felt like it still worked well.

I did several, probably 6 or 7 really light coats, letting it dry about 15-20 min in-between to keep it from dripping.

For the shade I adhered the ribbon around the top and bottom with fabric glue. Because my shade isn't a straight drum shade, and it tapers a bit, the bottom piece didn't lay completely flat. To allow it to lay flat, you will have to cut 2 or 3 small slits and create a sort of pleat in the ribbon.

A nice change for practically nothing!
Now I challenge you!
Find something in your home that you just don't love anymore and give it a little facelift.
I'd love to see your projects!

Client Progress

These lovely clients of mine just bought their first house after finishing medical school and we are having so much fun decorating it! We started with the living/dining room which is almost complete, and then we will be moving to the family room and office.  I think many people believe interior design happens quickly and you have to spend a lot of money all at once. That is one way you can decorate your home, but with this client we took it slow and steady. This results in an equally beautiful home. We came up with an overall design and concept to begin with, but were very flexible with reconfiguring the design as we went and buying things over time, not all at once.  We started with the key furniture pieces (sofa, chairs, console, dining table and chairs) and then a few months later added the side table, rug, light fixture, and mirrors.  Last week while I was in Utah we added the lamps and a few accessories and now we just need some window treatments a...
