Today I'm excited to introduce my friend and doTerra essential oil expert, Sarah Savage.
She's here to share how you can make your home a happier, healthier place using essential oils. I've wanted to start using essential oils myself for a while now, so I'm excited to get started! Sarah is happy to send you more info and even some free samples. Head over to her website to get yourself started!

Essential oils aren’t just for hippies
anymore!
They are a simple way to make your home a little healthier, a little
greener, or even just a little more pleasant. They naturally kill bacteria,
germs, fungi and mold without dangerous side effects so they can be used for
almost everything. Let me share with you
just a few of my favorite ways to use essential oils around the home.
A quick note before we get into the
details. There is a huge range of
quality and types of essential oils, and you need to be informed about what
you’re using. Essential oils are potent
and concentrated and when you’re putting them onto your body (or even just
breathing them in), they’re getting INTO your body, so it’s important that you have
pure products.
Because of these reasons I use doTERRA essential oils. I trust the quality of the oils for
myself and my family (they’re all Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade or CPTG) and
I trust the company that maintains that quality. Do your research and make an informed
decision. ‘Nuff said.
One of the most recognized benefits of essential oils is aromatherapy. Using natural plant compounds affects our
moods! You’re probably aware that
lavender and chamomile help relax you, while peppermint will energize you.
One really easy way to help improve our
moods in powerful ways is to smell CPTG essential oils. Smell them straight out of the bottles, wear
them like perfume, or diffuse them into the air and make your home a happier
and healthier place. All your friends
will ask what smells so nice!
Here are a few of my favorites to
diffuse. Try one at a time or blend them
to create your own concoctions. Two of my favorite combos right now are Balance
with wild orange to calm, and peppermint with wild orange to energize.
- Uplifting and Energizing: peppermint, wild orange, eucalyptus, white fir, lemon, grapefruit, Citrus Bliss. These oils are great for parties and social gatherings. Citrus scents promote a particularly comfortable, refreshing atmosphere.
- Calming and Relaxing: lavender, clary sage, orange, geranium, sandalwood, bergamot, Balance, Serenity. These are all great for de-stressing after a long day or for helping children feel calm.
But essential oils aren’t just to make
things smell nice. Pure, therapeutic
grade essential oils also stimulate the immune system, are powerful
antioxidants, and are naturally antimicrobial.
This makes them a natural component for a green cleaning!
As much as I like to avoid it, cleaning my
home is a necessary part of life. There
are loads of cleaning products on the market, but there are very few that I
actually feel safe using around my house and my kids. I like using oils because they’re toxin-free,
effective, safe to use around children and pets, and inexpensive! More cash in my pocket and fewer noxious
fumes into my brain and lungs makes me a happy homemaker.
Here are the two recipes we use most
often in our home –
First is our all-purpose spray.
I use it to clean countertops, bathrooms,
tables, doorknobs... I even give it to my two year old and let him go to town
spraying and disinfecting everything. He
loves spraying the house and I know he’s safe doing it!
When I’m feeling lazy I just mix some
water and On Guard cleaner concentrate.
Easy, peasey.
When I’m feeling ambitious or just want
to mix things up a little I make this all-purpose spray.
-1/4 c. white vinegar
-2 c water
-30 drops of essential oils (see chart below for ideas on
which oils to use)
-1 tsp liquid castile soap or borax*
*note: borax is natural but is toxic when ingested. Keep away from children,
pets, and food preparation areas.
You can change up this recipe based on what you want your home to smell like and what kinds of properties you want.
