24 Weeks

Only a month left until we hit the 3rd and final trimester!

We found out at our appointment today that little Ames was being stubborn during our gender ultrasound last month and they didn't get a great picture of part of his heart, so we get to see him again in a few more weeks so they can get some more pictures.
The doctor said everything looks great though and not to be worried, babies just don't like to cooperate sometimes and they can't get every angle they need.

I have flight plans set for the end of August for 2 whole weeks to come home for baby showers and such. I'm excited to see friends and family! 3 of my closest girl friends also came home from missions this past month so I can't wait to see them as well!

I got my Hypnobirthing book in the mail this week and I've already read quite a bit.
Even if you are not planning on necessarily having a natural birth, I think it's a great read for expecting mothers.
I know everyone keeps saying your plans can change and things happen, but I'm really pumped about this whole natural birth idea.

This is how I've come to think of it: birth is a natural thing that a woman's body was meant to do. It's not a sickness and it's not supposed to be excruciatingly painful, very uncomfortable yes, but painful no.
(I know some of you who have given birth are laughing at that statement)

I think modern medicine is great, but I also think it's meant for people who are sick and need medical attention. Thus, unless there are complications during birth I don't see the need for all the medical intervention.
If you can teach your mind to let your body do what it needs to do without freaking out, tensing up, and worrying, it really can do it all on it's own.

Ok I will leave it at that. I understand that there are many people who think this view is crazy, but I'm willing to be a little crazy for a better birth experience.

  1. I hope the natural birth works out for you. I can tell you have had 1 c-section, 1 with an epidural and 2 totally naturally. The natural ones were hands down the best! You just have to figure out what helps you relax because what works for someone else might not work for you. Good luck! You'll do great! I'm excited for you!

  2. Lexie I am so excited for your birth! It is so refreshing to hear your perspective. I agree- it is so natural; our bodies were made to do it! But sometimes people just want to tell you how horrific it is. I agree with you though. Birth can be beautiful and spiritual and wonderful, regardless of how the baby is born or how a woman chooses to give birth. Actually I used Hypnobabies for Thom's birth and will use it again this time. I found it amazingly helpful! Good luck with everything!
