How To Fill The BBW

What is the BBW?
It's the Big Blank Wall that nobody seems to know what to do with, particularly in the living or family room.

The BBW is especially common if you live in an apartment, duplex, or condo because you most likely share a wall with someone and thus you have at least one big wall with no windows.

Well I'm here today to give you a few tips to help you with your BBW.

ONE// Go big or go home. The scale of what you hang on a big wall makes all the difference. If you're doing a gallery wall, it's better to have several pretty oversized pieces rather than a ton of little ones.

TWO// Sometimes splitting the wall up into sections makes it easier. That can be visually with your furniture placement or with your paint.

THREE// Think about adding furniture that has a little height, such as book cases, or architectural features along the wall to break it up.

FOUR// If you're just hanging one large piece of art, do not compensate for the large wall by hanging it higher. Artwork should always be hung at gallery height which is 57" (meaning the center of the picture should be at 57") If you're doing a gallery wall then make sure the center of your arrangement of frames is at gallery height.
*One exception to this rule is if you are hanging things about a piece of furniture, sometimes you may have to adjust the height.

A collection of mirrors or ceiling medallions is a fun way to fill up the space. You can purchase the ceiling medallions at here for a pretty reasonable price.

A fun piece of DIY art made with a circle punch and some gold paper, you could also try wall paper, and then glued on in a fish scale pattern. Love it!
Chalkboard walls are a big trend right now. Here is a great tutorial on how to create your own.

Great examples of well done gallery walls.

Love the idea of a gallery wall that sort of camouflages your wall mounted tv

Make a large piece of artwork with wallpaper or decorator fabric and some moulding. Wrap the fabric around some wood or foam core.

If you're not up for the challenge of making a large piece you can also find remnant pieces of fabric and frame them separately. Ikea has affordable frames both large and small and I also love Target's frames.

Kind of a crazy room on the left, but I love the panels on the wall that break it up and how they've created 3 different "sections", one over the couch and one over each end table. On the right is another great example of dividing the wall with furniture arrangements.

What not to do:
That one small medallion is just not cutting it. It could work if it was about 3 times that size, otherwise I would switch it out with an oversized mirror or piece of artwork.

Table & Chair Matchup

The dining room is one place people really do their home a disservice.  How? They have a matching dining set, a generic light fixture, and no rug under their table.  Raise your hand if that's you.  Don't worry, you're not alone.  Just by adjusting those 3 things (mix up your chairs, add a fun light fixture, add a rug) you can really revamp your dining room.  Just bought your dining set and can't afford new chairs?  Easy.  Keep your side chairs, but find some upholstered chairs to add as captain's chairs on each end of the table.  It will mix it up just enough! Plus you'll have 2 extra chairs when you have guests over.  Another option is painting your chairs a different color from your table and add some fun cushions or reupholstering the seats.                                             ...
