French Neoclassical meets Biedermeier

I am finally sharing pictures of one of my favorite design projects I did last semester. The project was for Historical Furnishings, and we had to choose 2 styles that we had discussed in class and combine them into one design for a living/dining room. I chose French Neoclassical and Biedermeier. Most of you have probably heard of French Neoclassical, but Biedermeier is a little obscure to most people so I will tell you a little bit about it... Biedermeier was an influential style of furniture design from Germany during the years 1815-1848, based on utilitarian principles. Throughout the period, emphasis was kept upon clean lines and minimal ornamentality. Some of the designs even look like modern pieces, such as the stools I used in the living room of my project. Before I took the class, I hadn't heard of it either, but I fell in love! And I am really pleased with how my project turned out. The other pict...

Testimony

Yesterday I went and deposited my paycheck and was only able to deposit about half of it because we still had to pay tithing from our other grant money we received and some other income. I felt a little bummed but knew that paying tithing was more important than having that money. Then that night we found out how much we had to pay in taxes and I thought back to that money again, but knew we had to pay our tithing first. We have the money to pay the taxes but of course that's the last thing you want to take a big hunk out of your bank account. Today I got an email from the Financial Aid Office at school. It was definitely unexpected and it said that I had been awarded an academic competitiveness grant. It was worth quite a bit of money that will practically cut in half the amount we own in taxes. I know that if we give to the Lord he will give back to us and we will always have what we are in need of. For any of you that read this little blog, I want you to know that I have a...

No Sugar

After realizing that this weekend is Valentine's Day, I want to kick myself for betting Landon that I wouldn't eat sugar for a month. Landon's mom had a Valentine's party for the family yesterday with layered jello cut into hearts, sugar cookies, and mindy mint hearts. And of course I couldn't eat ANY of it! Dang! But the rewards will be worth it! Atleast thats what I keep telling myself to get me through it! I've heard of people that drop a pant size by just cutting sugar alone, and being that my reward if I win this bet is a shopping trip, I have great incentive to make sure I do it! So if anyone wants to join me let me know! :) I started February 9th, so March 9th is the big day. I have to say though, if it weren't Valentine's Day, I think it wouldn't be that bad, I've only been tempted when it's sitting right in front of me, so hopefully once this weekend is over it wont' be so bad. Wish me luck! P.S. T...

“TV is chewing gum for the eyes.” -Frank Lloyd Wright

Landon's Christmas bonus was a 42" HDTV that arrived last week. Well since it would never fit in the armoire our old TV is in, it ended up in our bedroom on top of the dresser. I swore to myself that I would NEVER have a TV in my bedroom. And now I know why. It's SO tempting to sit in bed and watch an episode of Prison Break or a movie, especially because along with the TV came Apple TV and Netflix. I hardly ever watched TV until last week when it showed up on our doorstep. Now I might have to agree with Ray Bradbury, "The television, that insidious beast, that Medusa which freezes a billion people to stone every night, staring fixedly, that Siren which called and sang and promised so much and gave, after all, so little." Ok so maybe thats a little over the top, but there is some truth in his words. But man do I love me a good chick flick with the click of a button ;). So on with the point of this post... Now that we have a new TV that I've sworn won...
